THE POINT RESOLUTION BILL.
Sir G. Grey, I judjre from a conversation I had with him to-day, if satisfied with the provisions of the measure brought down by the Colonial Secretary. The clauses protecting the rights of third parlies are, I understand, satisfactory to those concerned. Even Mr. Moss, who h;is been rather opposed to Sir G. Grey's action throughout, is satisfied that the Bill deals equitably with the rifflits of all parties. Mr. Moss, however, approves of the re-instatement of the Trust. IMMIGRATION. The Government is being urged to give free passages to young women belonging to separated families, that is to say, to near relations of settlers residing in the colony, in the event of the vote for immigration being passed. DUTY ON CEMENT. An endeavour is being , made to induce the Government to give a rebate of duty on cement used for wharves, breakwaters, and similar works.
THE PROPERTY TAX COMMISSIONER, Tho Property Tax Commissioner appears to be the In-tc noir of the hon. member for Ashley. Yesterday he got laid upon the table of the House some lively letters which had passed between himself and that official, and challenged a division, which was .successful, on a motion to have it printed. To-day Mr. Vermll gave notice to a-sk the Premier—(l), If he had perused the correspondence in connection with the claim which the Commissioner had made upon him (Mr. Verrall) ? ("2) If, in his opinion, the Property Tax Commissioner has exceeded his duly, will he take the necessary steps to have the ofHce of Property Tax Commissioner filled by a person in whom all grades of taxpayers will have confidence? This is very rough on Mr. Sperry.
