OUR MINING EXHIBITS.

MEETING AT THE THAMES. [EY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Thames, Wednesday. A MEETING of mine managers and others was held this afternoon to confer with Mr. George Wilson (Mining Inspector) and Mr. Adam Porter upon the representation of the Thames mining industry by exhibits at the Melbourne Exhibition.

Mr. POKTER stated that the Auckland directors were all anxious that the goldfields should be well represented, and with this view would give oewt. of quartz from each mine, and prepare it ready for shipment. This, he thought, would be sufficient to show the various descriptions of quartz, and all present concurred.

It was suggested that two maps of the goldfields, now at the Thames School of Mines, and an enlargement of McLaren's plan showing the depths of the various shafts, should be procured and forwarded with the exhibits.

Mr. Porter was authorised to communicate with Government, and ask that the whole of the quartz exhibits should bo sold in Melbourne at the close of the Exhibition, and the proceeds returned and devoted to a fund for sending mining exhibits to the forthcoming Paris Exhibition.

Both Mr. Wilson and Mr. Porter intend proceeding up country to endeavour to get samples of quartz from each district, and will probably attend the Paeroa committee meeting on Saturday evening next.

I hear there is every likelihood of outdistricts being well represented, several parcels having been promised. About two cwt. of silver ore from the Silver Queen claim at Marototo, and intended for the Exhibition, was on view here to-day, and attracted considerable attention. Its assay value was stated to be £80 per ton.
