FOOTBALL.

The English Team.—After a period of considerable doubt as to whether the English team of footballers iutended to pay us a return visit, Mr. Dixon, the secretary of the Rugby Union, yesterday received word by cable from Mr. Lilywhite stating that the return trip through New Zealand had been definitely decided upon, and appointing September 6 as the day upon which they would try conclusions with the local men for the third time. As the Auckland "reps." and the visitors have each a win to their credit, their third meeting on the Rugby field is anticipated to produce a keen contest, and the interest concerning the result will probably exceed the large amount of excitement shown regarding the former matches. Though our local players have been robbed of no less than live of their ." crack" backs, yet others have ably filled their places in subsequent matches, and if the men are well trained the team that can be put in the field need

be nothing inferior to that which already gave so good an account of themselves against their redoubtable antagonists. Saturday's matches. The following players have been selected to take part in club fixtures on Saturday:—
