The sharomarket shows a great improvement on last month, and good sales are made in our best stocks at rates further advanced than those quoted last month. Money is plentiful, and can be obtained at low rates on first-class securities. Banks.— Zealand have declined somewhat, sales having been made from £11 2s fid to £10 103, dosing with a firmer market, sales £10 16s. Colo, uial are in demand, buyers offering 445, and sellers are very scarce. National are quiet, but are readily taken when offered un the market. Keropthorne, Prosser Company's shares have improved slightly ; the tendency of the market is upward. In all other stocks the business done has been small, and no notaoie change has occurred in quotations. On the whole the tone of the stock and money market inspires confidence in the future. , . Mining.—The market for mining has been utterly stagnant during the month. Most 01 trie shares, unfortunately, show a decline in price, ine Cambria and Saxon are at present the leading mines, and continue to turn out steady yields oi gold, but not enough to pay dividends. The aim Company are vigorously pushing ahead their wonts, and before long will be able to start the plant and reduce quartz to bullion. Mr. Parkes is busy erecting a plant at Karangahake for his own process. The Askham-Molloy Company are running on tailings at the Thames, and the Newbery-\ autm Company are pushing ahead their works. With these three new processes at work, it will be hard if one does not turn out a success for the treatment of the many refractory ores of Hauraki goldfields. Alex. Saunders, Stock and Sharebroker. Auckland, August 11,1883.
