Lakcf.nv from the Wharf.—Harry Hines pleaded guilty to stealing, on Thursday, from the goods sheds at Queen-street Wharf, various articles, the property of Captain Nellie Barnard, of the Salvation Army, valued £2. Detective Herbert proved the case, stating that, in company with Sergeant Kiely. he had found a box with the articles in it in the accused's custody. Accused first denied the theft, but on being arrested, admitted it. The prisoner had a previous record against him, and the Resident Magistrate sentenced the prisoner to six months' imprisonment, with hard labour.

Destitute Persons Act.—Mr. W. J. Napier made an application under the Destitute Persons Act, 1887, in the case of McLood v. McGeary. The case was before the Court about a week ago, when the defendant had been adjudicated the putative father, and ordered to pay 5s per week. An agreement had now been come to between the principals that the defendant should pay the lump sum of £20 in lieu of the weekly payments. Mr. Napier said a lady had agreed and desired to adopt the child, and the money would be used to pay plaintiffs debts. The Resident Magistrate said before making the order he should like to see the lady who was going to adopt the child, so that there should be no liability of the child being afterwards thrown on the State. The plaintiff agreed to do this, and also said she was willing to accept the £20 in lieu of all demands on the defendant. The Resident Magistrate deferred making the order till he had seen the party who was alleged to desire to adopt the child.
