THE PACIFIC CABLE.
[press association.]
Melbourne, August 10. The Premier, Mr. Gillies, has interviewed Admiral Fairfax with the object of urging him to lay before the Lords of the Admiralty the desirableness of expediting a survey for the Pacific cable. The Admiral replied to the effect that, although the number of surveying vessels is limited, he thought two or three might be spared, if the Imperial Government could be convinced of the urgency of the matter.
