A WOMAN'S REMEDY FOR THE PARLIAMENTARY MUDDLE.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, Will you allow me space to make a suggestion re the present political situation? It seems to me that as you men have failed so imominiously to govern New Zealand, it is about time we women had a try at it. One thing would be greatly in our favour. All men—Benedicts, especially—know that when a woman takes an idea into her head sho generally hammers away at it until she accomplishes her end. Now, return women to Parliament, with the grand idea of retrenchment in every department firmly fixed in their minds, and they will never rest until they have carried it out. There are instances even in apathetic Auckland of feminine per-, severance in pet notions, which will at once occur to every reader of your interesting correspondence column. Now, direct all this energy into the representative channel, and allow these enterprising and determined ladies to turn out the present Parliament; and hey! presto, all financial difficulties vanish; the whole perplexing question of legislation for a mixed multitude of saints and sinners is overcome; and we women gracefully retire to our homes, having accomplished in a few days what the present representatives have not succeeded 111 effecting in months of idle talking and party squabbling. The electors fondly believed that the candidates at the last election had got the retrenchment idea in their heads standing on the hustings, but no sooner were they comfortably seated in the House than they forgot; all about it, or lacked the womanly virtues of perseverance and constancy to enable them to fulfil their promises.—1 am, <fcc., August P.
