THE EXHIBITION.
[PRESS association.] Melbourne, August 3. The Exhibition Building is once more a gigantic works-hip, and the work of unpacking exhibits proceeds briskly. The picture galleries, of which only a portion is ready, are engaging considerable attention. A grand concert was held in the building last night, at which all the Governors were present. The cablegram sent by the Governor to the Queen, announcing the opening of the Exhibition, contained 111 words. The actual time occupied in the transmission of the message, from the time it left Melbourne to its delivery in England, was 36 minutes. The attendance at the Exhibition yesterday was small. Over the Victorian Court are erected huge arches, composed of bales of wool grown in the colony. The trophies, composed of coal, oranges, and wines, in the New South Wales Court, are greatly admired. Several robberies are reported as having taken place at the Exhibition Buildings. A number of valuable musical instruments and a quantity of diamond jewellery are missing.
