COUNTRY NEWS.
[from our own correspondents.] Hamilton, Friday. The cattle and horse sale held yesterday in the public j»rds by Mr. J. McNicol, and also by Mr. J. S. Buckland, were well attended. There was a large muster of stock, and the principal buyers of the district were present. Very lew cattle were passed, and satisfactory prices were realised. The public are entering with enthusiasm into the arrangements for holding a public " bee" on the 16th, to plant a portion of the Park reserve on the lake with forest trees, the holes for which are being now got ready by Mr. Mason. The band will be in attendance, and it is probable that the Hamilton Light Infantry corps will hold a day parade upon the ground. It has been suggested that funds should be raised to give a series of prizes for rifle shooting by the corps at a floating target upon the lake, which could be done with perfect safety. Tamahere, Friday. Mr. J. Hill, of this place, is about to take a second consignment of horses to the Sydney market, for which port he leaves on Monday. Profiting by the experience of his previous venture, Mr. Hill will take light horses only, which are the more saleable in Sydney and more easily and cheaply obtained here. Mr. Hill has succeeded during the last two or three months in picking up a number of firstclass hacks and light harness horses, chiefly the produce of that favourite entire Merrylegs. Wesleyan services at the Tamahere Church will in future be held every fourth week, commencing on Sunday week next. This arrangement has been entered into between the Rev. Mr. Carr and Archdeacon Willis. The latter gentleman will conduct service here on Sunday next.
