Gipsy King has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. Dunedin, Thursday. Mr. Carew, R.M., gave judgment to-day in a case in which Andrew Smith, a publican, was charged with selling brandy after hours to some women in a cab outride the hotel. He considered the sale proved, but as the Amendment Act of 1882 authorises eleven o'clock licenses, but provides no penalty for selling between eleven and twelve o'clock, the case would have to be dismissed. Bluff, Thursday. Captain Hansby, of theHawea,was arrested on board the to day on a Dunedin warrant charging him with fraudulent bankruptcy, He will be remanded North.
