The spirit merchants and importers held a meeting on Tuesday to agree on a uniform scale of charges to prevent competition in prices, an alteration having been rendered necessary by the new tariff. In addition to the tariff charges they have put on a slight percentage for themselves, as they say their profits have been very small for some years.
