THE 'FRISCO SERVICE.
PROPOSED DISCONTINUANCE. NOTICE OP MOTION. [BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL. CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Wednesday. Mr. Ward this afternoon gave notice of his intention to move the following resolutions :—l. That the ends to be aimed at in arranging for the conveyance of our mails should be: (a) economy, (b) a fast and regular steam service, (c) the consequent facilities for freight and passenger traffic. 2. That the existing arrangements are needlessly extravagant. 3. That the San Francisco Service should not be continued. 4. That the Direct Service should be reconstituted on the following lines :—(a) Bonus payments to be limited to 24 hours before contract time instead of being unlimited as at present, (b) That no fixed subsidy be paid, all payments to be on weight of mail matter carried, (c) That separate tenders be invited for a fortnightly, and also for a monthly, Direct Mail Service, (d) The contract time for such services from New Zealand not to exceed 40 days, and from London 43 days.
