On the 14th instant the Panmure Club journeyed to Clevedon to play a match with the local club. They arrived at the Wairoa Landing about 1 p.m. in the steamer Waitoa, and commenced to play in one of Mr. R. B. Waterton's paddocks at 3 o'clock. A very good game was played, which resulted in a victory for Panmure by three points to nil. Clevedon Club got a try, but it was disallowed, there being a dispute as to whether the ball was thrown in properly, and the referee did not happen to see it. The Clevedon boys had to give in. For the Panmure club, Kilkenny (2), Loomb, Spencer, Stewart, and their captain all played well; and for Clevedon, Rhodes, Jeffereys (2), Lukes, Fred Gallaugher, T. Hale, and W. Kerr were the most conspicuous, W. Kerr and Gallaugher being the most brilliant. After the match was over, the Panmure team were entertained at tea by Mr. and Mrs. Waterton.
