BANQUET TO CONSUL GRIFFIN. Sydney, July 25. A meeting of woolgrowers to-day decided to banquet Consul Griffin in recognition of his efforts in the direction of getting American wool duties removed.
FATAL GAS POISONING. ■ Melbourne, July 25. . A woman named Mrs. Dick, three children, and another woman named Mrs. Reich man were poisoned by an escape of gas in their dwelling last night. One of the children has since died. Mrs. Dick and another child art. not expected to live, but the others are recovering. *'
THE AUSTRALIAN COAL TRADE.
Sydney, July 25. It is believed in shipping circles that should the maritime difficulty assume important proportions, the Australian coal trade with Hong Kong will almost entirely be cut off, the coal being obtained from Japan.
