THE AUCKLAND POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

TThe annual show of the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon, and Dog Association opens to-day at •Hie Drill-shed in Wellesley-street; and the Bhow. has been so admirably arranged, and so well worked up, that it is likely to prove the most successful that has ever been held since the society was inaugurated. The show on this occasion is to be confined to birds, poultry, ducks, pigeons, etc. Dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other mammals are ' excluded, as Jit is intended later on to get up a . dog show. The Drillshed has been laid off to the best advantage. There are three double rows of coops, with passages . between, laid ;on -j trestles - tables along the length of the shed. There is also a row at each side, and at the entrance end of the shed. The coops are uniform, and of the lightest class of wire ' work. The president, Mr. Granger, the secretary, and the committee, were engaged up to a late ; hour last night, ■ making 4 arrangements lor the exhibits, ' numbering the coops, and receiving the ' exhibits, which came to hand, " some from the South, some from country districts, and some from the suburbs. In regard to the Show itself, the entries are not quite so numerous as those of last year, but there is greater competition : that is to say, where' one exhibitor last year had a dozen exhibits in various classes, and was unopposed, this year he is opposed in every class, or nearly so. Roughly speaking, the entries are as follows : —Game, 68; Dorkins, 6 ; Cochins, 26; Brahmas, 23; Langehans, 13; Plymouth Rock, 27; Dominiques, 2 ; Wvandottes, 16; Spanish, 13; Andalueian, 19; Minorcas, 5 ; Hamburgs, 18 ; Polands, 9 ; Hoodaaa; 7 ; Leghorns, 15 ; Black Javas, 1 ; Silkies, 1; ban turns, 20, Selling • class, about 20. In ducks there are 19 exhibits, including prize birds from Canterbury. There is one bronze turkey, also 6 eggs, 75 . pigeons of various classes, 55 canaries, and 20 entries for exhibition only. The whole of the exhibits have to be caged by nine o'clock this morning. At ten o'clock the judges Messrs. Dean, Hately, Todd, Boyd, Elliott, Cruickshank, White, and Fisher will commence their duties. The show will be opened to the public at three o'clock, by which time it is expected all "awards will be made, but there Will be no formal opening or speaking. We may add that a number of silver cups and other valuable donated prizes were on view yesterday at Mr. Stephens' shop in Queen-street, where they attracted a large amount of attention.
