Sydney, July 20. A serious fire broke out in the Chinese quarter at Waterloo, this evening, destroying thirty buildings. One Chinaman was severely burnt, and lies in a critical condition. LIBELLING VICTORIA. MELBOtTRNE, July 20. The Government are considering the statements made by Admiral Field, in the House of Commons, that any number of men in the Victorian Assembly could be bribed. The House characterised the latter as a brutal libel on Victoria. DISCOVERY OF OPALS. Brisbane, July 20. Magnificent opals have been discovered in West Queensland, but the spot is concealed. Garvan, member for Eden, has given notice of a motion censuring the financial policy of the Government. The Premier has declined to accept or treat the motion as one of want of confidence. FIRE ON BOARD A VESSEL. Newcastle, July 19. A fire broke out on board the American barque Murray Hive, and considerable damage to the vessel and cargo was occasioned before it was subdued. TE ANAU.
