BANKRUPTCY.
MEETING OF CREDITORS.
A meeting of creditors in the estate of Wro. Edye, baker, of Parnell, was held yesterday. There were present the debtor ana his solicitor (Mr. Madden), Messrs.' McKinstry, F. W. Smith, Forgie, and Mr. Buchanan, for Mr. Knox. The debtor's sworn statement, was read, and he was further examined. He knew a person named Heaps, a connection of his, a jockey. He had a.racehorse on debtor's premises. He asked to let it stop in the stable, and in return promised to do anything about the place. ■> Debtor charged no rent, and they joined in the cost of its feed. Ho owed Heaps £3, and offered to pay him in this way. The horse * remained three or four months, but he did not consider he had paid Heaps the £3 yet. He signed the deed of assignment read over to him by Mr. Smith before the understanding that £25 worth of furniture would be allowed. » It was not provided for in the deed, and he accepted the verbal statement of Mr. Smith before signing the deed. The next day Mr. Smith took away everything but a few blankets and sheets, and working tools. Thomas Heaps, horse-jockey, and the alleged owner of the horse, also gave evidence. Mr. Knox, a creditor, in -reply to Mr. Smith, said tnat about April last Heaps said to Eaye in his hearing: " You're a fine man to be the owner of a horse when you want to ship it to Waipu to-night." He believed Edye was either the owner or had a share "in the norse. The Official Assignee stated that he had now all the facts before him to enable him to deal with the estate, and if he found it necessary to do so he would call another meeting of the creditors. * ,
