" Sir George Grey," says the Hawke's Bay Herald, "of whom nearly everybody is proud, but in whom a much less number have faith, is as inconstant as ever in his dear old simple way. He waded up to his knees in metaphorical gore in support of the iniquitous tariff, yet no sooner is it passed than he objects to it because too heavy burdens are placed upon the people. That is what was said by all who opposed the tariff before it was passed, but for Sir George Grey to say it now is— just like him."
