The City Council to-night decided to take' steps for raising a loan of £50,000 to erect . gasworks, a report of the special committee appointed to consider the question of lighting the city stating that guarantees of sup-; .port to the amount of thirty million cubic feet per year had ■ been. received from consumers. The committee recommended the erection of works to produce forty million cubic feet per annum, the cost of which, including reticulating the city, is estimated at £50,000. s "• It is proposed to supply gas to the public at 6s per 1000 feet, against 8s 4d now charged by the Gas Company. .
