AN OTAGO BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.
[by telegraph.—press association.] Duxedin, Wednesday. A case of breach of promise, in which £500 damages was claimed, was heard at the Supreme Court to-day, Sarah Ferguson, of Naseby, spinster, suing John Dawson, of the same place, baker and grocer. The parties had been engaged for about four years. Dawson then began to pay attention to a Miss Donaldson, with whom he stated he had become entangled, and for the plaintiff it was contended he induced her to write and release him from his engagement to her, so as to bo able to show Miss Donaldson, and enable him to free himself from her, and marry Miss Ferguson. For the defence it was contended that' the engagement was broken off voluntarily by the plaintiff. At the conclusion of the evidence the jury said that they considered the plaintiff had not proved her case, but at the request of the Judge they listened to Sir R. Stout for the plaintiff, and then they found for the defendant.
