It was stated in a case heard at Queenstown that the defendant in a civil action who was a good " shouter" had no less than 169 drinks placed to his credit, and on another 76. The Lake Wakatipu Mail states that defendant, whose name was McLarn, asserted that he had been "lambed down," The amount sued for by J. McChesney, hotelkeeper at Arthur's Point, was £6 Bs, for board and cash lent. The defendant had paid £15 by cheque, which with the exception of a trine for board, was for some five days'drinking. Notwithstanding this Messrs. Warren and J. Reid, J.P.'s, gave judgment for tho amount claimed.
