THE RATEPAYERS AND THE COUNCIL.
[by TELEGRAPH.PRESS association.] Wellington, Monday. The City Council met bo-day to consider the resolutions carried at a public meeting of ratepayers on Friday night, a3 .follows : —" That in the opinion of this meeting the provisions of the Wellington Corporation, Leasehold, Drainage, and Financial Bill, now under consideration by the House of Representatives, are calculated to inflict great financial loss upon the city, and the City Council are hereby requested to withdraw it from Parliament." After discussion in committee it was decided to withdraw the Bill, and it was further recommended that in the opinion of the committee the resolution passed at the meeting: i? tantamount to a vote of want of confidence in the Council, and that it is the duty of the members to resign. This resolution was also adopted.
