The monthly meeting of the Okaihan Mutual Improvement Association took place on June 9. The fourth number of the Echo was read by the secretary. The first article was a letter on the hawkers' tax. The writer considered the tax to be imposed in tho interests of storekeepers, to secure to them a monopoly of trade at exorbitant prices. The next was a letter in reference to the printing of the prize lists of the late show. After that was a continuation of a very good article on " Bushrangers and their Sympathisers," by an old Australian. Next followed an essay on "Character," by "Herman." Some facetious extracts came next, after which was a very good practical article entitled, " A Plea for Soft Roads," in which the writer pointed out that a great saving would be made in the long run if County Councils and Road Boards cleared an unnietalled track alongside of the metalled roads, to take the traffic off the metal when it would wear it the most, viz., in the dry season. He contended that all new formations ought to be wide enough to have a metalled and unmetalled track between the water tables. It was announced that the Hon. Herman Stapleton would deliver a lecture on "The Beauties of Nature" on the 30th inet.

Notting Hill, July 29, 1876. " Dear Sirs, —I endorse all that is said in your testimonials as regarde the action upon the skin of the Torebone Soap. I came home last week with my body covered with blood-heat eruptions, and after two tepid baths using the Soap, my akin was almost clear.— Yours truly, . Messrx. F. S. Cleaver jind Sonß." The above speaks for itself. V. S. Cleaver's Patent Terebene Soap is unrivalled for preventing and allaying Eruptions and Irritation, and producing a smooth skill and clear brilliant complexion. Manufactory 32, 33, and 34, Ited Lion-street, Uolborn, London.
