[by telegrafh.— own correspondents]. Thames, Monday. Cambria.—ln breaking down the hangingwall of the main reef in the winze below the intermediate level, an improvement is perceptible in the class of mineral.
Caledonian.—A start was made to-day to break down the leader in the winze below No. 2 level. Colours of gold were found freely distributed, but no picked stone was obtained. The leader is about six inches thick.
About 25 tons of Newbery-Vautin Company's machinery arrived per ketch Violet to-day.
MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Cambria.—The hangingwall portion of the main reef in the winze that is being sunk from the intermediate level down to No. 3 level was broken down to-day. There are about six inches of splendid-looking mineral, and colours of gold are seen through the mineral when breaking it down. Trenton'.—The contractor has sunk the shaft 7 feet in eight days, but it has not been timbered up yet. This makes the depth of the shaft 344 feet. The country has been very hard this week, but it appears to be a little softer in the bottom. The boiler has been inspected by Mr. Jobson, and found to be in good condition. Steam was again got up in it on Saturday morning. New Fearnought.—This week has been taken up in cutting through the reef and timbering. The reef underlying about 2 feet in 6 feet the crosscut required to be extended 6 feet in order to get through it. In cutting through the reef nice-looking minerals have been observed. The quartz is of a kindly nature, and very favourable for the existence of gold. The total distance of crosscut is 30 feet.
