4 - New Zealand HERALD'Office, ■ Thursday evening. Trade is very quiet, and beyond an upward movement in kerosene, there is nothing to report, except a repetition of previous statements. Maize. '2s 10d. About 700 sacks have arrived during the week, some of it in very fair order, and the market is now well supplied. Oats are worth from 2s Id to 2s 3d. Oamaru potatoes, 60s; Canterbury, 555; locals, very few offering fit for market, 47s 6d. The Southern markets have advanced 7s 6d during the week, and are likely to be firmer still. Wheat, Southern. 3s 4d; local, 3s: fowS wheat, 2s Sd good whole seconds, and frosted 2s 6d. There is a good demand for new cure Canterbury bacon. In the local produce market prices remain unchanged. But dairy butter is at Is per lb wholesale, and Is 3d per lb retail, while the "Shell "and Anchor brands are at Is 3d, and the " Crown " brand Is per lb wholesale. Eggs remain at Is 3d per dozen wholesale, and is 6d per dozen retail. KAURI GUM MARKET. This market is steady for good qualities. Poor qualities are dull of sale. Messrs. Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Report. —At the Durham Yards during the week produce has been in brisk demand, though low in price, Chaff, £2 10s to £2 12s 6d per ton ; oats, 2s to 2s 3d ; maize, 3s 3d ; carrots, 30s per ton. Horses : There was a fair muster at the Durham Yards on Friday, and brisk demand, and anything of a good stamp sold freely. Upstanding hacks, draught horses, and useful farm horses are required, but no improvement in weeds. Hacks, £5 10s to £18; light harness, £6 to £11 6s ; draught, £11 to £16 10s. Wool, skins, hides, and tallow : At the hide and skin salo on Tuesday a full catalogue was brought forward. Hides sold at from 2jd to 4jd ; calf skins, 4d to 5d ; sheepskins, Is 9d to 4s ; pelts, 6d to 9d ; tallow, 15s. Cattle: A good all-round demand exists for all classes. At Newmarket on Tuesday dairy cattle of good quality were scarce, and with few exceptions all found purchasers. There exists a good demand for good young animals ; stores sold at late values. Faf cattle" were in full supply, and though many wore not first-class prices showed an upward tendency. Fat cows fetched from £2 10s to £6 2s Gd ; steers, £4 5s to £3 2s 6d, or from 15s to IBs per 1001b. Sheep: In moderate numbers, and brisk demand. Wethers, 14s to 18s 6d ; ewes, 12s 3d to 18s. Lambs : 60 shorn lambs fetched 8s 6d ; in wool, lls to 15s 6d. Pigs : Short supply, and brisk demand for good porkers and baconers. MR. ALFRED BOCKLAND'S WEEKLY REPORT.— At the Haymarket, during the past week, loose fodder advanced in price, and on Tuesday it ranged from Is 9d to 2s 3d the cwt; chaff, from £2 5s to £2 15s ; bonedust, from £5 to £7 10s ; potatoes, £3 the ton ; maize, 3s ; oats, Is lid to 2s 2d the bushel. At thfi hide and skin sale, on Tntfsday, the enquiry was good, and late prices sustained. Heavy ox hides, from 4|d to 5Jd ; medium and light, from 3d to 4}d ; cow hides, 2Jd to 3§d, calf skins, 4d to 6d ; pelts and skins, from 9d to 4s 7d each. At the horse sale, on Friday, prices were without alteration from the past few weeks, usefnl horses, medium-sized, ranging from £5 to £12 ; a Cambridge roller sold for £12; and a spring cart, £11. At the country cattle sales, held respectively at Pokeno and Drury. stock of all classes were in better inquiry, and advanced in values. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows near calving brought from £4 to £6 each. Fat cattle were yarded in full numbers ; best quality only i maintained last week's prices, inferior were lower in price. Sheep, abundant, were lower in price about 2s each, particularly wethers. Ewes in lamb were in good enquiry. Well-bred dairy-fed pigs kept their value, but coarse pigs were almost unsaleable, prices being nominal. Some averages obtained 20 cows, £4 4s ; 15 steers, £6 8s 6d ; 48 steers, £6 ISfl 6d; 35 steers, £6 15s; 300 sheep, mixed sexes, 15s ; 200 wethers, 14s ; 190 wethers, 15s Sd ; 200 wethers, 16s 2d ; 105 ewes, 14s 6d ; 194 sheep, mixed sexes, 14s Gd respectively. Messrs. G. W. Bi.nney and Sons report that at their usual weekly sale of hides, skins, tallow, etc., brisk competition was experienced for all heavy hides, and a few choice lots realised 5d per lb. "They quote: Frime heavy ox, 4*d to 4jd ; heavy, 4i<l to 4|d ; medium, 3jd to 4d ; heavy cows 3id to 3Sd ; medium, 3£d to 3Jd ; light and sloppy, 2sd to 2Jd ; kips, 3id to 3Jd ; calf skins, 4Jd to 4+d per lb; stag hides, 7s to 12s each ; local butchers' green ox, 243 to 26s ; cows, 12s 6d to 15s 6d each. Skins : A full supply to hand, and prices ruled from Is Od to 4s 3d ; pelts, from 4d to Is Cd each. Tallow, 12a to 13s ; bones, 4s 6d per cwt; rough fat, Id per lb.
