SOUTH FRANKLIN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the committee of the above society was held at Putting's Pukekohe Hotel, on June 13, immediately after the sale. There were about 15 present. The business was to take into consideration the establishing of an annual ploughing match. Mr. Rutherford, the president, presided. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The president stated the nature of the business, and asked some member to m§ke a proposition in connection with the business before the meeting. Mr. John Johns proposed, seconded by Mr. McCraken, "That a ploughing match take place." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Saunderson, seconded by Mr. Johns, " That on drawing on the funcls of the society, the sum do not exceed £3; that the ploughing match, if any, be carried out'.by public subscriptions." Carried. Proposed by Mr. B. Harris, seconded by Mr. Sharp, " That a ploughing match be held this day twelve months." An amendment was then proposed by Mr. Johns, seconded by Mr. McCraken, " That the match take place the second Saturday in July next." The amendment was put and lost, the majority voting in favour of the motion. This was all the business. After thanking Mr. Pulling for the use of the room, and a vote of thanks to the chairman, ?he meeting separated. Several of our leading farmers are extremely sorry at the • apathy shown by the Agricultural Society in this matter, and I understand that a public meeting is to be held at the Pukekohe Hotel on the 16th inst., to appoint a committee to carry out a ploughing match at Pukekohe in a large paddock kindly offered for the purpose liv Mr. T.
