One of the most remarkable natural curiosities that we have ever seen, says the Bendigo Advertiser, has just come under our notice. Mr. Minty, fruiterer, Lyttelton Terrace, opened a cocoanut the other day, and his surprise can be imagined on beholding the contents—not a quantity of milk that delights the boy who opens the case, not a pint of watery fluid such as refreshes the weary traveller in hot countries—but a live, almost full-grown frog is revealed to his gaze. The puzzling question arises, How did the frog get inside the cocoanut ? It would seem a very hard nub to crack. There is a small hole (a quarter of an inch in diameter) at one end of the cocoanut. Through this opening a tadpole or. larval frog must have crawled in while the fruit lay on some marshy ground. Ib would then begin to feed on the nutrient substance of the nut, but as it grew in size it could no longer get out, and only found room for its increased proportions by eating away .the interior, which simultaneously would serve as food for the young batra. chian.
