MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Cambria.—The tee drive at No. 4 level is in a distance of 19 feet. When breaking down the reef in this drive on Friday and Saturday last strong colours of gold were seen through the quartz. There is also nice-looking mineral through the quartz. Work has been stopped in this drive yesterday and to-day, owing to the annual inspection of the boiler. The _ winze on the main reef in the intermediate _ level east was started on Friday last. When breaking down the leader on the hangingwall of the main reef on Saturday last ana to-day (Tuesday), about 31b of nicked stone came to hand. A portion of the hangingwall of the main reef was broken down when starting to sink the winze, in which there is splendid mineral. Seventyfive loads of quartz have been crushed during the week for the return of 1'260z of amalgam, and 104oz of amalgam from boxes and general clean up of the battery. The mine manager wired yesterday:"ls7 loads of quartz crushed for 116oz of gold." Saxon.—ln the leading stope hillward of rise, No. 3 level, the reef is divided into two parts by a horse of mullock. The footwall portion is from 6 to 12 inches thick, and produced 501bs of picked stone during the past week. _ The hangingwall portion is from 15 to 18 inches thick, and the 301b of picked stone wirod this morning, was obtained from it in both parts colours of gold are seen through the general dirt, and gold is showing in the back of the former. Three stopes arc in progress above this, in which there is from 15 to 18 inches of crushing dirt, and gold is seen when breaking it down. The crosscut from this level, to cut No. 1 footwall leader, is in 10 feet in very good country. This work is being carried on by the contractors for the low level, who cannot continue below, in consequence of the Big Pump stoppage for boiler inspection. Both stopes on No. 1 footwall leader have been advanced 9 feet; it is 7 inches thick and shows good colours of gold. On hanging wall reef, No. 4 level, the leading and second stopes are up to the Trenton boundary, the third stope is 115 feet; fourth, 95 feet; fifth, 86 feet, and sixth, 39 feet in from the junction. The reef in each of those stones is 15 inches thick, and shows colours of gold. On the footwall reef, tho seventh stope is within 17 feet of the boundary. The reef here is from 12 to 15 inches thick, and shows a little gold. The eighth stope is 131 feet, and ninth stope, 99 feet in from the rise ; 15 inches of quartz are showing in each of these stopes, and every breaking down colours of gold are seen. All the quartz now being broken, is shaping for a payable return, and as there is a large amount in sight, I would again urge the necessity of a battery, being confident that a saving of £70 or more would result, and in driving the low level, which will be 400 feet along the reef, trials could be made much cheaper than paying 8s 6d per load to a public battery, to say nothing of the thousands of tons of low grade dirt which could be treated. Plate amalgam was _ cleaned yesterday for 20Soz lOdwt, making in all 13470z lOdwt on hand to date. The picked stone on hand will be crushed to-morrow, and retorting take place the day after.

New Manukau.—The dirt now being crushed from the stopes, No. 5 lode, is shaping for a good return, which will be to hand about Thursday. Mulligan's leader is looking better in one end of the stopes, but it will be two or three stopes up before it will be payable, I think.
