INVERCARGILL SHOOTING CASE.

Invkroargill, Wednesday. Malonev was brought before the Resident Magistrate to-day on a charge of attempted murder, and was remanded for eight days. Dr. Galbraith, who was shot by Maloney yesterday, is going on fairly well. Twentysix pellets were extracted from his leg today, and many had passed right through the thigh. From what has transpired ib seems evident that Maloney has a mania which impels him to shoot ab all medical men who have had anything to do with him. He kept a loaded gun in his place in town some years ago, in order to " wing" I)r. Cotterell, and has said thab he would have fired it at Dr. Henning bub for the fact that his groom was along with him, and he did not want to shoot a man who had done him no harm. There was method In his madness, for he went up to Dr. Balbraith, who lay on the ground, and tried to raise him, saying he was sorry, bub " had to do it." He wished he had hit him lower lown, and in all his remarks on the subject lias spoken of killing but the main object of his resentment. Maloney is an old settler, having been on the Land Company's Edendale estate 26 years ago.
