A rather amusing story comes from Victoria Valley over the late Road Board election. In the first instance, two vacancies were announced, and two qualified payers were nominated; but the nominations arrived three days late, and consequently were informal. , A future date was appointed, when, four candidates were nominated, but, prior to the date of the poll, one withdrew. In the meantime, the returning officer discovered that, according to the amended Act, three members should have retired; and, as three were duly nominated, he declared those three duly elected in accordance with the Act. Rather a peculiar way of doing business ; but in the North things like this are not to be wondered at.[A Correspondent.] "Rough on Corns."—Ask for Well's "Rough on Corns."
