SHEEP DIP ADMITTED FREE.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Invercart.lLL, Saturday. A question in connection with the now tariff has been made the subject of comment hero. Mr. Ward, M.H.R., a Protectionist, is the agent for English-mado sheep dip, and had 200 cases landed after the House of Representatives adopted the tariff. The Collector of Customs claimed duty on these, presumably under the tariff item, " Patent and proprietory medicines and other preparations recommended to the public under a general name or title as a specific for any disease or affection affecting human or animal bodies, 25 per cent.' Mr. Ward held that no duty was payable, and after communication with tho Treasurer, an order came to admit tho sheep dip free. The local maker, who is a strong Protectionist, says that he understood the items Erotected sheep dip, otherwise he would ave made a representation to the Government, with the view to the imposition of a duty on the imported article, there being about a dozen makers of the commodity now within the colony.
