The committee of the Financial Reform Association requested their chairman to forward to His Excellency the Governor a copy of their report on the Colonial Treasurer's proposals re increased taxation. We hear that this was done yesterday per Wanaka. Mr. John McLachlan, in the absence of Mr. John Buchanan in Australia, is acting as chairman, and addressed a letter to Sir W. Jervois, stating it was forwarded for his information. The report was adopted on the Bth instant, days before Mr. Beetham moved or gave notice of the terms of his resolution. The committee objected to the Budget proposals, and protested against an increase of taxation until further efforts had been made to reduce the ruinous expenditure still going on. However, the House, by an overwhelming majority, approved of fresh taxation being imposed, before inquiring if this could be done. Ten of our Auckland members voted with the majority. Mr. Moss did not vote, but paired in favour of this course. Mr. Hamlin paired against fresh taxation before inquiry. Messrs. Monk and Goldie did not vote or pair either way. Four of our Auckland representatives voted for efforts being made to retrench before imposing heavier taxes, namely, Sir George Grey, Messrs. Cadman, Whyte, and Withy. There is one paragraph in the committee's report which possibly may attract His Excellency's attention, wherein they regret that the Act reducing the future Governor's salary has not yet become law. Doubtless the Governor will refer the document to Ministers. J ', An old couple in Lichicres, after celebrating their golden wedding, took to quarrelling, and the man finally threw his wife into the fire, killed her with a heart stab, and then cut his own throat. The Danish Minister of Justice waited till an expensive crematory had been built at Copenhagen. Then he decreed that no corpses should be burned, as it was contrary to law.
