WELLINGTON ITEMS.

[BY TELEGKArH.— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. REV. MR. HILL. Tub Rev. J. S. Hill passed through here to-day en route to Auckland. He is in excellent health, and saya that his mission to the various Young Men's Christian Associations in Sydney, Molbourne, Ballarat, and Dunedin has been a great success. During the afternoon sitting of the House he was among the visitors behind the Speaker's chair, and listened to the " Mokau" Jones debate. THE SALVATION ARMY. A further detachment of the Maori contingent of the Salvation Army farcwolled last night, and left this evening for the East Coast. One of them, Rangi, proceeds on to Auckland. SIR WILLIAM JERVOIS. His Excellency the Governor was present last evening at the breaking up of St. Patrick's College for the midwinter holidays. The Rector, Dr. Waters, at tho closo of the proceedings, expressed the hope that for years to come Sir William Jervois would be spared to rule the colony. His Excellency, in reply, said he could only say that he heartily endorsed the sentiment. Hβ would be only too happy to continue in his present position ; at the same time he could not shut his eyes to the fact that he was now an old man ; at anyrate the authorities at Home, considering his age, might have tho opinion that it was quite time he was put on the shelf. But if it pleased them to think that, in spite of his age, he would still bo of service to his country in the governing of this great colony, no ono would receive the nows of his reappointment with greater pleasure or moro thankfulness. This expression of opinion by His Excellency is of interest, in view of the late rumours of His Excellency's reappointment.
