The following are the particulars and numbers of the books selected by the committee appointed for that purpose, for the lending library. There are in all 2131 books selected, and these are divided as follows ;—Christianity, 33 works; philosophy, ancient and modern, 27 ; society and law, 247 ; geography, travels, voyages, and ethnography, 185; history, 227 ; biography and correspondence, 130 ; science, 35 : arts and trades, 71 ; literature and philosophy, 367 ; fiction and romance, 809. The books are to be bound in cloth, with leather corners and backs. Tenders close on Thursday next, and will be opened at the Council meeting on that day. It will be several months yeb before the lending library can bo opened.
