COD LIVER OIL V. CREAM.

TO THE EDITOR. Silt,—Writing- recently in the Herald an "M.D." characterises the action of the Colonial Treasurer in putting a tax on cotl liver oil as mean. But is that action mean ? Nothing of the sort. Does " M.D." know that cream is just as good as the best cod liver oil for parties troubled with weak or tuberculous lungs? Cream is also much cheaper, and infinitely more pleasant to swallow. Says a medical man :—"lt cannot be too widely known that cream separated from new milk before it has been cooled by machinery is a substitute for cod liver oil; and that if during cold weather those who have delicate constitutions and require concentrated nutrition, but who cannot overcome the nau.sea associated with cod liver oil, will take this description of cream instead, they will find in most cases immense and lasting benefit. In several hospitals it has already quite superseded the nauseous oil." Let Auckland doctors try cream for a time in the place of the cod liver oil, which at best is a dear medicine, and likely to be more so.—l am, &c, Agricola.
