THE GOLDFIELDS.
[UiT TELEGRAPH.—OWN COIiRJJSPONDENT. j Thamks, Friday. Cambkia.—liasb night the foot wall portion of the main reef was intersected in the western crosscut in No. 4 level, after a distance of 15 feet had been driven. In breaking down a portion near the top of the drive this morning, gold was found freely distributed throughout the quartz, which was of a rubbly nature, and very promising in appearance. The discovery is of considerable importance, and materially enhances the value of the mine. A start was made to-day to sink a winze from the intermediate level down to Ho. 3 on the rich seam of mineral discovered when opening up the former level THij; Big Pump.—The pump stops for annual inspection of boiler to-morrow, which will take several days.
MINE MANAGERS' REPORT*?..
Saxox. —The ,501bs of picked stone wired ■yesterday and io-day {14th) was from the leading stone on footwall portion of main reef No. 3 level; there are about six or seven inches of quartz here, and colours of gold are seen all through it. No other change has taken place in the stopes since my report. The quartz cut at :No. 5 level is only three or four inches thick, but I think it will prove to be the reef. Amalgam to <!ate 107102 lOilwts. Gkm,—Since my last report I have extended the surface level drive a distance of about ten feet. In the face the leader is about eight inches in thickness, and gold can be seen at every breaking down.. 1 have now carried the gold for a distance of fifty feet, and have commenced stoping. I feel confident in saying that our prospects have much improved, even aince my last report. I have about five tons quartz to hand, which will be increased to about ten tons by the end of the week, when I intend having a, trial crushing, which should prove more than !)ayable. I shall continue driving ahead as ong as I can see gold of a payable natiire, while the stopes will lie pushed on to the same point-
