TO the editor. Sir,—Once again does " Churchman" " return to the charge" as the writer (who presumes to adopt for his nom-de-plume a name he had better have left alone) says in to-day's Herald ; and this letter I intend to be my last. But one thing I would say is this, that although I can plainly see some of your correspondents do not like my arguments and my references to Scripture and to the Book of Common Prayer, yet not one has tried to refute the various statements made in my letters. Some have shown a very rancorous and un-Christian spirit, and one, the writer in to-day's Herald, tells me that the "devil can quote Scripture for his purpose." Now, sir, I would not have made such a onesided and uncharitable remark had I been he, for it is as applicable to one writer as to another, and more so • to those who cannot refute the plain Bible texts of their Christian brethren. I am not aware that I ever breathed a word about image or saint worship, &c., and such, I unhesitatingly say, is unscriptural and uncanonical; yet the writer of to-day gravely quotes a passage from Exodus, apropos of ? And these pieces of ritual, which he calls new-fangled, are just the reverse, and no "stripling" attempts "to foist" upon a congregation any new idea, but rather, Christian doctrinos and practices which date from tho times of the Apostles, as I showed in my last letter. " Emissaries of Satan," indeed ! On what authority can anyone say this? "By their works shall ye know them ;" and their works at home are churches rebuilt and restored, and thrown open free to God's people; new churches built and filled ; missionary work in the slums, and amongst the lowest of the low. These are the works of the living Spirit of God moving in the Churches today in a greater measure than before; not tho works of the "emissaries of Satan." Yea, let us contend for the faith once delivered to the saints, and guard and keep it entire, for it is precious.—l am, &c., June 11. Churchman.
