NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS. Sydney, June 7. In the House this afternoon the Premier delivered a statement of the course theGovernment intended to pursue. The Land Bill was to be dropped for this session the Land Property Tax Bill will be proceeded with, and the Chinese Restriction Bill would be dealt with to completion. In this matter the Government intend to withdraw from the course previously determined on. Amended Standing Orders were to be introduced. He stated that the deficit of New South Wales had not increased one shilling since the Government took office. The deficit stands now at £2,620,000, and the Treasurer would at once introduce a Bill providing for its extinction. He proposed to pay off a quarter of a million annually for ten years, payments to be made every six months.

NAUTICAL INQUIRY. Adelaide, June 7. A nautical inquiry was held to-day into the circumstances connected with the collision between the Zabo and Coury, which occurred in port on the 19th ult. The Bench found the captains of both vessels to blame. THE SUEZ MAIL. Albany, June 7. Arrived : The Victoria, from Ply mouth. The men who brought the charge against the captain of the Verona, of starving one of the crew to death, have left town. They applied to the shipmaster for discharge, fearing they would share the same fate as the victim should they again go to sea in the vessel. SYDNEY DEFENCES. Sydney, June 7. A scheme of military defence is about to be submitted to Parliament. It includes a number of complete submarine defences, and it is believed that the entrance to the harbour will be absolutely impossible for a hostile vessel. PROFESSOR BLACK. Sydney, June 7. Professor Black, of Dunedin, has accepted the presidency of the Chemistry and Mineralogy section of the Australian Association tor the Advancement of Science. PUPIL TEACHERS. Melbourne, June 7. The Government will appeal to the Privy Council against the decision oi the Supreme Court in ordering the classification of a pupil teacher in a State school a fifth-class certificate. The case involves a large sum, as every pupil teacher is thus entitled to similar rank and salary accordingly.

THE QUEEN'S FUND. Melbourne, June 7. For the Queen's Fund, a sum of £10,000 has been collected.

THE WESTINGHOUSE BRAKES.

Melbourne, June 7. The Railway Commissioners have made exhaustive experiments, and finally determined to fix the Westinghouse brakes on all the Victorian railways.

THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.

Melbourne, June 7. It is not expected that the British court will be ready for opening on the Ist of August. Owing to the bungle in the allotment of space, in London, nothing can be done to the court till the plan arrives on June 22.
