GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The ordinary meeting of the Grammar School Board of Governors was held yesterday. Colonel Haultain presided, and the Rev. C. M. Nelson, and Messrs. J. H. Upton, G. Aickin, and J. A. Tole were present.

Scholarship.—A. B. Roberton wrote resigning his scholarship at the Grammar School.

Free Tuition.—Mr. Bourne forwarded a report respecting the boys receiving free tuition at the school. They were generally diligent and careful, there being only one exception to this rule. The Board resolved to send a warning to the boy referred to. The Division of the Grammar School. —The Chairman said that he, in company with Messrs. Bourne and Allright, had inspected the Grammar School, and had found that the proposed division, in order to make accommodation for girls, could be made without much difficulty, and with some alterations, whilst a tennis ground might be made at one part of the playground. A level would have to be made, and this would probably be expensive. Mr. Upton thought the proposal to send the girls to the Grammar School would be a very popular one. Tho teachers of the boys' classes might sometimes render service in teaching the girls, though a stupid prejudice against it existed in Auckland.

1 Rent.—A letter was received from W. Andrews, who asked that the rent of his

farm at Pakuranga be reduced. The application was referred to the Property Committee, with power to act. , Transfer. An application for permission to transfer the lease of certain land from Mrs. Mullaly and E. R. Hill to Jeffreys was granted. GmLs' High School Bill. — Messrs. Whitaker and Russell forwarded the draft copy of a Bill to enable the Board to provide tuition for female pupils. The JBill contained a clause providing that all endowments reserved for the Girls' High School be placed under the control of the Board of Governors. The consideration of the question was deferred till a special meeting is held on Tuesday next, at 3.15 p.m. *
