Boarding a Moving Train.—Herbert Thompson was charged with a breach of the Bailway By-laws, by getting upon a, train while it was in motion, at Auckland, on May 18th. Accused pleaded guilty. Mr. Clcndon appeared on behalf of the department, and said he was instructed to pres3 for a heavier penalty than usual. This was the third offence within the week, and unless something more than nominal penalties were inflicted, the people would go on committing these offences, as they seemed to do with comparative impunity. The resident magistrate said that he would have thought that 5s and costs would have prevented people from committing these offences, Dut as it had not done so, he would make the fine this time 7s and costs 7s, total 14?.
