OPOTIKI TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday> May 15. Present: Messrs. R. Wright (chairman), J. C. Arthur, W. Law, H. G. Walmsley, and Alfred Parkinson. A letter was received from Mr. S. Crapp asking for permission to plant trees on the edge of the footpath on the road bounding his property. Granted ; the trees not to be less than 20 feet apart. A letter was received from the Treasury Department stating that £2 8s Id has been remitted to the Board's credit for rates on native lands for the year 1887-8. A long discussion ensued as to the most desirable dimensions for a bridge to replace the Canoe Bridge culvert. Resolved, That the tenderer whose tender may be accepted shall be requested to meet the Board with a view to reduce his tender for a 12-feet instead of an 18-feet bridge." The following tenders were then opened :—T. G. Savage, £53 10s: Woodford and Hennessey, £39155; J. and W. Parkinson, £52 15s. Resolved, " That Messrs. Woodford and Hennessey's tender be accepted, subject to the previous resolution." Tho following accounts were received : —G. Kelly, ranger, one quarter's salary, £1; Thomas Parkinson, £10 16s Gd; S. Bates, advertising account, £1 4s; G. Ball, lamplighting contract, £5 ss; Abbot and White, timber and nails, 2s 3d ; Thomas Parkinson, kerosene for bridge lamp, 8s Bd. These accounts were passed for payment. Resolved, "That the secretary send a telegram to Messrs. Hesketh and' Richmond asking when the leases of town reserves will be ready. Resolved, "That tenders be called for the position of surfaceman for a period of six months, tenders to be returnaole this day week." Resolved, " That the surfaceman be offered Is 6d per night for attending to the lamp on Canoe Bridge." Messrs. Wright and Walmsley were appointed as the surface committee for the current month. Resolved, "That tenders be called for four months lamplighting, from June Ist to September 30th, returnable this clay week."
