CITY ROWING CLUB RACES.
Tjik City Rowing Club hold its races on Saturday last in tho Domain, when there was a good muster of the members and their friends. Tho club has adopted an unique method of gettfng at results, i.e., the scoring by points over several distances. The runnera score as follows: — Five points for a winner, three points for a secondhand one point for a third. Competitors go over all the courses and finish as they can, thus arriving at the best all-round distance man. On Saturday there were three races— all on tho fiat—at 100 yards, 150 yards, and 220 yards. Mr. James Martin, the club's trainer, acted as starter, and in every instance got his men otF to remarkably good starts, and this with little or no delay, and in a manner most creditable to him. Mr. M. Mossop acted as judge, but his office was a sinecure, as everything went oil' in the most goodhumoured fashion, and there was no appeal. Tho first race was 100 yards, and the following were the starters and the finishes :— J. M. Cummings, scratch; H. Gold water, 3yds ; J. Evers, 4yds ; Taylor, 4yds ; Orr, syds; Otto, syds; Williamson, Everett, and W. J. Evers, 6yds; Cawkwell, 9yds. This gave Cummings 5 points, Goldwater 3 points, and Evers 1 point. The second race was 150 yards, and the following were the starts:—Cummings, scratch ; Goldwater, syds ; Taylor, 6yds ; J. Evers, 7yds; Orr, Syds; Otto, Byds ; Williamson, 9yds; Diggens, 9yds ; W. J. Evers, 10yds ; Cawkwefi, 12yds. At middle distance the competitors were in a bunch, Cummings close up to his men, but he was unable to get through and failed to get a place. Goldwater appeared to wait too much, apparently watching Cummings, and so missed his chance. The men finished :— Taylor, 1; Goldwater, 2; Otto, 3. Won by half-a-yard, about a couplo of feet between second and third. Score :—Taylor, 5 points; Goldwater, 3 points; Otto, 1 point.
