ANOTHER GOLD DISCOVERS. Sydney, May 28. A valuable discovery of gold has been made 28 miles from Broken Hill. Tha stone is said to be very rich, and only second to that found at Broken Hill A rush has set in. THE AFFILIATION LAW. Sydney, May 26. Sir H. Parkes, replying to a deputa* tion from the Social Purity Benevolent Association, promised to amend the affiliation law so as to give the woman power to summon the alleged father, and to obtain a conditional order for maintenance to take effect from the birth of the child. The desirableness of the amendment was urged upon the ground that it would tend to prevent desertion.

HOLT AND THE BANK OF NEW

ZEALAND.

Sydney, May 26. Holt, ex-manager of the New Zealand Bank, applied for an injunction to restrain the trustees of his interest in the Rosehill estate from transferring the interest to the bank. Holt, in the capacity of bank manager, advanced £10,000 on the estate, being himself concealed under the name of Porter. The Court refused the application, and held that notwithstanding the articles , of incorporation prevents the bank from dealing in land, the bank were entitled under the circumstances to the whole of Holt's share in the land. TWO PRISONERS. Sydney, May 26. A shocking outrage was committed in one of the cells of the central police station last night. A prisoner named Hewitt made an attack upon anothei man named Park.
