THE WELLINGTON FOOTBALL MATCH.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—My attention has been drawn to a statement in your issue of the 18th inst. that hints had been thrown out by some of the English team to the effect that the alleged roughness in the late EnglandWellington match was chiefly caused by my action. A similar statement from one of the team found its way into a paper here bub did not call for any comment of mine as its falseness was apparent to the majority of the Wellington public ; but as I have many friends in Auckland whose good opinion I value, will you allow me to give the statement an unqualified and emphatic denial. I have very strong opinions on the game in question, but do not consider it necessary to air them, but will content) myself with stating that I am afraid that the Englishmen did nob take the first check in theii tour in a proper spirit.—l am, etc., John M. King, Captain Wellington Representatives. Wellington, May 21, 1888.
