AN AMUSING SCENE.
A very amusing scene took place in Bridge-street, New Ross, the other da}', when an old lady named Catherine Cavanagh succesafuly resisted a posso of sheriffs bailiffs. A decree against her for non-pay-ment of rent has been for some time in the hands of the sheriff, and several times attempts have been made to execute it, but without success, tho old lady having locked and secured the doors. On the day in question another determined effort was made to execute the decree of the court and seize tho furniture. A party of bailiffs armed with crowbars, hatchets, etc., and accompanied by a few policemen, proceeded to the house about midday and attempted to force an entrance. The old lady seemed to be aware of the approach of the law officers, and appeared at an upper window. As soon as the baliffs began their work she commenced to throw down water, flower-pots, bricks, etc., on the heads of the unfortunate officers of the Crown. The battle went on for some time amid the laughter and cheers of \i large crowd of townspeople who had collected. After a time the bailffssuspended operations, and some of them proceeded to a publichouse near, where they refreshed themselves so liberally that the police, who were present to protect them in carrying out the court decrees, apprehended them for being drunk and disorderly. The old lady, who passed some time in America, then addressed the crowd on her alleged wrongs and the cruelty of her landlord.
