COUNTRY NEWS.

[by telegraph.—own correspondents.] Te Aroha, Friday. Delegates from the Ohinemuri and Piako County Councils, and the To Aroha Town Board, met here yesterday to consider the forming of a River Board on the lines laid down after the Hon. Minister of Marine visited the district at the beginning of last month. The conclusion arrived at was, that the forming of such a Board would prove impracticable, as it was feared that in some of the localities included in the proposed river district the whole of the requirements of clause 6 of the River Boards Act, ISB4, would not be complied with. The meeting decided to request the Government to rescind the proclamation, giving extended jurisdiction to the Thames Harbour Board; the unanimous opinion being that this, if effected, would, together with the continuance of the existing Ohinemuri River district, be sufficient protection both to that district and to the places further inland. A man named Horace Wood was charged in the Police Court, before Mr. J. Ilott, J.P. with breaking anct entering the dwellinghouse of Mr. Bleasdale at Richmond, and stealing a gun and other articles. He was remanded to Hamilton, where the case will be heard to-morrow. Paeroa, Friday. Mr. Reiscliek. the well-known naturalist, is on a visit to Ohinemuri. He thinks very highly of the district, especially the Tui Creek and Waitekauri districte.
