[own correspondent.] Thames, Friday. Efforts are being made to obtain a window for erection in St. George's Church, in memory of the late Captain Wildman. Both local volunteer companies have promised their assistance, and special services will be held on Sunday, June 10, which will be attended by the volunteers, the offertories to bo devoted towards this object. The Rev. Mr. Nelson, of St. Paul's, Auckland, will be asked to conduct the services.

[fkess association.] Wellington, Friday. Mr. A. Cooper is gazetted public vaccinator for Ohinemuri; Mr. W. D. Moody, to be Visiting Justice of the Prison at Auckland ; Rev. A. Reid, to be a member of the Auckland University College Council; Mr. H. G. Seth Smith, to be the graduates' member of the same Council. The resignation by Lieutenant Coombes, of the Hamilton Light Infantry, is gazetted. An Order-in-Council gazetted to-night extends the close season for seals until Ist June.

The resignation of Lieutenant-Colonel Bodham is gazetted. The Governor's levee to-day was largely attended.

Hokitika, Friday. The Bank of New Zealand have shipped 16550z sdwt3grsgold, valued at £7020. Westport, Friday. The wrestling match between Duncan and Ford was won by Ford. At the races to-day the principal race was won by Doncaster.

Christchurch, Friday. An inquiry was held to-day before Mr. R. Beetham, R.M., and Messrs. Harper and W. White, jun., to ascertain whether the Rhodes Convalescent Home is necessary as a separate institution, under the management of the Hospital Board. Mr. Holmes appeared to oppose, on behalf of the Hospital Board. No evidence of importance was taken, the Secretary of the Home not being prepared to go on. The inquiry was adjourned till Monday. DtJNEDiN, Friday. The police having failed in securing convictions ag-ainst publicans for Sundaytrading in the ordinary way, made a raid on some hotels last Sunday in private clothes. Four publicans appeared in Court to-day. Three were fined for serving two constables ; the other case was dismissed, as the publican put a question to them about being travellers, and they did not answer the question. At a meeting of the Forbury Park Co. a dividend of 4 per cent, for the year was declared. Owing to a decrease in value of land and the paucity of sale, £1500 was written off the freehold account.

The Kaikorai School Committee decided to-night to accept the decision of the Education Board as to the dismissal of Mr. McLauchlan, the headmaster, under protest, expressing regret that the commission of inquiry was not held in public, and that an independent examination of the school was not granted.
