Thames, Saturday. Waiotaih.The work of opening up ft new level in the Mary Ann section is pro-

gressing very favourably, the chamber having been completed and securely timbered, and the crosscut extended a distance of over 70 feet through an excellent channel of country. A body of quartz known as the tributers' lode is expected to be met with about 30 feet ahead, and beyond that again other lodes will bo mot with. In the Waiotahi section, operations are wholly confincd at present to stoping above Nos. 3 and 4 level on Nos. 2 and 5 lodes, together with their numerous branches, and also upon the hangingwall leader. From these stopes a fair amount of crushing dirt is obtained of a payable nature. Saxon.—Fourteen tenders were sent in

to-day for tho cutting out of a new chamber and driving 550 feet for a new level below No. 4. These will bo forwarded to Auckland for the directors to' consider and to choose one from the number. The now reof in the crosscut at> No. 4 level still appears to be improving as driven upon, but no gold has been soon in it. • Alburnia. —A length of 70 feet on the reef at the battery level is now opened up, and four stopes are in hand. The reef averages about a foot of crushing dirt right through, and is looking very favourable. Tho return banked yesterday was obtained as follows :— loads general dirt yielded 30ozs ; 701 picked stone 35ozs : total, 65ozs melted gold.

Cambria. —Although other leaders may be intersected in the crosscut at No. 4 level before the main reef is reached, some importance is attached to the leader cut through, as it is the first found in the footwall of the reef, all the others having been found in the hahgingwall.
