ACCIDENT AT WAIUKU.

An accident of a rather serious nature happened here about a fortnight since, by which a young woman was thrown from a horse and dragged by the stirrup some distance. Mr. Hull was sent for, and on arrival could find no external injuries, but was of opinion that the sufferer was internally injured. She was conveyed to the house of Mrs. Hone, in the village, where she has been ever since. Dr. Dalziel was sent for, and examined the patient, and is of opinion that she had received a severe shock by the fall, as she was not strong previously. Mrs. Hone, who is a widow, and not endowed with too much of the world's goods, has been very kind to the sufferer, and to recoup her for nor time and expense, a few of the settlers formed themselves into a committee, and got up a concert, which took place on Thursday evening last. There was a large gathering. Mr. Hamlin. M.H.R. occupied the chair, and stated the object for which the concert was held. An excellent programme was creditably gone through, in which the following took part : —The band, Mesdames Bird, A. M. Barriball, Misses Hamlin, Downes, Flavell, Wright, Brown, E. Hamlin, and Messrs. Constable, A. M. Barriball, Grcenhead, J. Deed, McPherson, and De Castro. Mr. Goldsbury moved a vote of thanks to all who had taken part in the evening's entertainment, which was carried by acclamation. " God Save the Queen " brought the concert to a close. The proceeds of the concert will amount to between £11 and £12. The hall was quickly cleared for dancing, which was kept up with great spirit for three or four hours.—[Own Correspondent, April 21.]
