[by telegraph.— press association.] Christchurch, Thursday. The unemployed to-day decided to ask Mr. Percival to wait on the Premier when passing through, and urge on him the absolute necessity of meeting their claims for work. Mr. Percival agreed to accede to their wishes.

TEE SALARIES OF SCHOOL TEACHERS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christohurch, Thursday. At tho Board of Education to-day letters were read from two lady teachers, complaining that the new scale would reduce their salaries 50 per cent. The Board decidod that in these and similar cases of special hardship, salaries should be paid at the rate of 10 per cent, less than those formerly received. A petition was read from teachers of small country schools, complaining of great reductions made in their salaries. Notice was given of a motion providing that no male teacher in charge of a school receive less than £100 per year.
